Idol Dance Competition Rules

This fall, our Idol Dance Competition returns for the third time! What’s more, now you can show your talents on the Main Stage!

WHAT IS THIS COMPETITION ABOUT?

  • You can compete in one of three categories:
    • Best Virtual/Anime Idol
    • Best J-Pop Idol
    • Best K-Pop Idol
  • We are expecting dance performances with a maximum duration of 2 minutes and 30 seconds, during which you should authentically bring your chosen idol to life on stage. It is important that you perform a song that the idol has performed before. Due to the time limit, you are welcome to edit the songs as needed.
  • In addition to the dance, it’s important to accurately represent the chosen idol in terms of appearance, so you must be in cosplay! The costume does not need to be homemade. Wearing a wig is optional but can be advantageous.
  • In addition to the dance and cosplay, the judges will also evaluate a third aspect: how well you embody the chosen idol. This includes facial expressions, lip-syncing to the lyrics, and the overall performance presentation. It’s important to fully immerse yourself in the role of the idol to enhance your performance.

PRELIMINARY JUDGING

  • Due to high interest, we will be holding preliminary judging for the first time this year.
  • Therefore, each applicant must submit a video of their chosen song with their performance, which will not be made public. This video will only be used to review your performance and create the final list of participants for the program.
  • For the main stage final, the top 9 performances will be selected based on the preliminary judging. These performances will be evaluated by the judges during the main stage event.
  • We want to see the entire performance you intend to present on stage in the video. The video should be a single continuous take without any cuts, from start to finish. You may add the original music afterward for better sound quality. Wearing cosplay in this video is not mandatory.
  • We are not evaluating the quality of your video production, but rather the performance itself. Please ensure that the performance is clearly visible and well-presented.
  • Important! Your application will only be valid if it is submitted with both the registration form and the video. (The link to the registration form is provided below.)
  • We will not send separate notifications regarding the success of your application or the receipt of your videos.

A FEW IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Minimum Participants:
    • The competition will proceed with a minimum of 6 participants.
    • Each category will only be held if there are at least 3 participants in that category.
  • Individual vs. Group Entries:
    • You may enter with either an individual performance or a group performance.
    • The same person or team can only participate in one category, either as an individual or as a group.
  • Competition Date and Location:
    • The competition will take place on the Main Stage of the Autumn MondoCon 2024, on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
  • Judging Panel:
    • The panel consists of three judges with qualifications in dance instruction and professional dance. They are also experts in cosplay performance.
    • The judges will provide feedback after each performance on-site.
  • Awards and Categories:
    • Awards will be given for the best individual performance, best group performance, the judges’ favorite, and the audience favorite.
    • If there are enough participants, awards will also be given for the best K-Pop, J-Pop, and Virtual/Anime Idol performances.
    • The awarded categories may be adjusted based on the received entries.
  • Performance Length:
    • Performances must not exceed 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
    • Songs can be edited or mixed, but the total duration must still adhere to the 2 minutes and 30 seconds limit.
  • Participation Limitation:
    • An individual can only appear in one performance across the competition.
  • Prizes:
    • The best performances will receive prizes.
  • Age Restrictions:
    • There is no minimum age requirement for participating in the competition.

DEADLINES AND APPLICATION

  • Application Deadline:
    • The deadline for applications is September 8, 2024 (Sunday) at 23:59.
  • Announcement of Admitted Participants:
    • The list of admitted participants will be published on September 15, 2024 (Sunday). An email notification will be sent to everyone, so please provide an email address where we can reach you.
  • Response Requirement:
    • If you are selected among the top 9 but do not respond to the email notification, it will be assumed that you do not wish to participate. In this case, the judges will choose another performance to fill the top 9 spots.
  • Withdrawal Notification:
    • If you are unable to attend the competition or need to withdraw, please notify us immediately via email at garaitimi88@gmail.com. Your spot will be filled by another competitor.
